Teenbanc was born out of the need for more effective and engaging financial education resources for teens. Driven by a vision of empowering teens to gain confidence and independence around their finances, I partnered with personal finance experts and educators to create TeenBanc's intuitive app.
By combining sound pedagogy with incentives tailored to young users, Teenbanc provides an experience that is both educational and entertaining for teens learning to budget, save, and spend wisely.
For most teens, their first learning of money comes from within the household. Essentially, the parent's understanding of money reflects on the teen.
The discovery phase included a social economic analysis and interviews with teens & parents. Meetings are always meant to be interactive, but these conversations uncovered key insights about user needs. For instance, in one session, a teen described TeenBanc as “doing something they think people need.” This concept of building awareness of spending and saving habits guided our approach.
The app provides teens with peer-to-peer payment, educational content, and savings goals to promote financial literacy. For parents, the app enables monitoring of teen spending through an activity overview and card management.
The teen features aim to empower independent money management, while the parent oversight ensures safety. Blending educational resources and practical experience targets engagement and real behavioral change, respecting teen autonomy within parent-set boundaries.
